AN IMAGE MANIFESTO BY ALEX APOSTOLIDIS

TO BE TRUTHFUL, I DO NOT THINK I HAVE EVER INTENTIONALLY COMPLETED READING A MANIFESTO. PERHAPS THIS EXPLAINS WHY I FEEL SO LOST WITH MY INTENTIONS AND EAGER TO RUN WITH MY GUT, MY EYES AND MY MIND. HUFFINGTON POST (REBRANDED AS HUFFPOST) SAID: “TO WRITE A MANIFESTO YOU NEED TO WRITE WHAT YOU BELIEVE, WHAT YOU WANT, AND WHAT YOU KNOW TO BE TRUE.” FRANKLY, ALTHOUGH, I KNOW A FAIR BIT, I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING. I AM UNSURE OF WHAT I WANT AND MY BELIEFS ARE SHAKY. I BELIEVE IN THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE VISUALLY. I BELIEVE THAT IMAGES HAVE LANGUAGES OF THEIR OWN THAT ARE BEYOND WORDS. I KNOW THAT THESE LANGUAGES ARE INFORMED THROUGH EXPERIENCE AND VICE-VERSA, EXPANDING EVERY DAY- AS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GO A DAY WITHOUT READING AN IMAGE. WHEN I PLAY WITH PICTURES, I FEEL LIKE I AM SAYING THINGS I HAVE BEEN RUNNING AFTER WORDS FOR. IT FEELS LIKE NATURAL INSTINCT. I WANT TO COMMUNICATE. I WANT TO COMMUNICATE IN A WAY THAT FEELS INTUITIVE AND LIVES IN MULTIPLICITY. I WANT LAYERS OF LANGUAGE EMBEDDED INTO PIXELS AND DOTS OF INK. IT IS IMPORTANT TO FOSTER AN APPRECIATION FOR AN EVERGROWING, UNIVERSAL, AND OMNIPRESENT LANGUAGE OF THE IMAGE. TO COMMUNICATE THROUGH AESTHETICS IS COMPREHENSIBLE ON A SUBCONSCIOUS LEVEL. I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND ME IN WAYS THAT WORDS CAN'T. I WANT TO TALK TO YOU IN A LANGUAGE WITH A DICTIONARY SO VAST AND EFFERVESCENT, ONE WOULD DIE BEFORE THEY LEARNED EVERY “WORD”. AND ONE WILL DIE BEFORE THEY LEARN EVERY WORD. BUT I HOPE THEY HAVE CARRIED ENOUGH “WORDS'' IN THE TIME THAT THEY HAD. SHOULD THEIR IMAGES LIVE ON FOR ETERNITY, LOST IN PRINT, DEGRADING OVER TIME, OR TAKING UP SPACE IN THE CLOUD. LONG LIVE THE IMAGE OR LACK THEREOF. THIS IS MY MANIFESTO OF INTUITIVE VISUAL COMMUNICATION.

I WANT TO SEE WITH YOU.
